What We do

Carers look after family, partners or friends in need of help because they are ill, frail or have a disability. The care they provide is unpaid. Carers UK definition

Action for Carers Surrey champions carers’ rights and makes sure carers’ opinions and experiences are known to the decision-makers. There are currently around 100,000 carers who live and care in Surrey, and an estimated 10,000 young carers under the age of 18. We provide some practical services to carers ourselves and signpost carers to the people and places who can offer other essential specialist support.

Eighty-four per cent of carers never expected to become a carer but sudden illness or accidents can bring about radical changes, sometimes overnight. Caught up in the daily care of a loved-one, many carers remain unaware that they may be entitled to benefits and other help which could make their lives easier, or even allow them to enjoy a life outside their caring role.
