Carers look after family, partners or friends who are ill, frail or have a disability. The care they provide is unpaid.
Most carers never expected to become a carer but sudden illness or accidents can bring about radical changes, sometimes overnight. Caught up in the daily care of a loved-one, many carers remain unaware that they may be entitled to benefits and other help which could make their lives easier, or even allow them to enjoy a life outside their caring role.
There are currently around 108,000 carers who live and care in Surrey, and an estimated 14,000 young carers under the age of 18.
Action for Carers Surrey champions carers’ rights and makes sure carers’ opinions and experiences are known to the decision-makers.We provide some practical Surrey-wide services to carers ourselves and signpost carers to the people and places who can offer other essential specialist support.
