Action for Carers (Surrey) currently employs 40 permanent staff based at our offices in Guildford and Reigate.
Chief Executive Officer Jane Thornton is responsible for overseeing the organisation and is primarily concerned with developing our Giving Carers a Voice strategy, lobbying on behalf of carers to influence policymaking and service provision in Surrey.
“I first started working with carers over 20 years ago, managing a local Crossroads care scheme, during which time I helped to found Action for Carers along with a number of other professionals and carers. Since then I’ve continued in various guises to raise awareness of carers issues and to try and improve services and support for them.
I hope that our work here at Action for Carers Surrey now and in the future will enable carers to have the skills, information and support they need to continue to care, if that is their wish. Equally importantly, I want to see accessible services and support in place to enable all carers to have the opportunity to have a life of their own outside of their caring role. Caring will affect almost all of us at some time in our lives, so I believe it’s in everyone’s interest to make this a reality.”
